CAMERA OBSCURA
 Latin for "dark chamber"

EXPOSURE TRIANGLE
APERTURE: an opening into the camera (through the lens)
SHUTTER: a mechanism that opens and closes to let light in
ISO: the sensitivity of the film/image sensor

LIGHT REFRACTION:

The part of the photograph that is nearest the viewer.

MIDDLE GROUND
The distance between the two extremes if fore- and middle ground.

BACKGROUND
The area in a photograph that is the farthest from the viewer. (Distance)

Known for soft focus and 'painterly' quality of her images.
Was panned as not serious enough as a photographer.
Accepted by painters (Pre-Raphaelites) more than photographers.
